Today we meet creator, writer & artist, Dan Harris.

Please introduce yourself and your team (if you have one).

I'm Dan, creator of Lou Scannon, Druid Investigations and more recently, The Cosplayer that Doomed the Earth. I'm one third of the Self Publishing powerhouse that is Attic Studios (Though the other 2 members are on hiatus at the moment).

What are some of the comics that inspired you to start creating your own? Any creators in particular?

As a super young kid, I was massively into Spider-Man, as would be expected, I guess. I grew up on the Secret wars, The Madelyne Pryer saga etc and was a huge fan of Mark Bagley and Marc Silvestri growing up. In my late teens, I discovered Michael Turner and I think I can honestly say that I'm doing comics now because of him. He was (and is) a personal hero of mine.

How much of your own personality goes into your character(s)?

People tell me that Lou from Lou Scannon is basically me on paper... maybe the worst of me? Or the most sarcastic and cynical versions of me?

I think the Cosplayer from TCTDTE probably has my more insecure side showing through. The bravado on the front to secretly hide the coward underneath? Other than that, I guess you right what you know so its only natural that you put a bit of yourself into your character.

Where did you draw your inspiration from?

That's tough! Life?? My art is inspired by those that have gone before me and honestly, the list is so long that we could be here all day.

I've already mentioned three of them but others include Bruce Timm, Joe Mad, Humberto Ramos. Lou Scannon is inspired by every space opera that's ever come before mixed with Monty Python. Druid is from my love of Arthurian Legend and mythology as a whole. Cosplayer is inspired by all the comic cons I've done over the last ten years!

I realised that of all comics, none were about cosplayer and with the way the cosplay scene has grown in the uk, it would be fun to shine a light on it.

What struggles have you faced with the creation of, and producing, the final release?

Motivation. Time. Cost... Motivation because this is something that us on the indie scene do in our spare time. So it's hard to finish a day of work and then try and sit down with the little time off you have, and draw 22-24+ pages of comic. Time because even when you're not working, life throws other commitments at you so sometimes it can be hard to allocate that time to yet your comics done. Cost speaks for itself. We dont have big backing from corporations. We fund this stuff ourselves and if we are REALLY lucky and people like our ideas, they may support us on platforms like Kickstarter.

What do fans need to know going into their first issue of your comic?

They're fun, you'll probably laugh and all of it is made with love.

What have you got coming up in the future? Are you working on more issues?

Cosplayer issue 3 is half way drawn as is! Druid issue 2 has been on the back burner for too long but I'm hoping to tackle that soon too. Oh and I run my patreon comic as well as diary comics and doodles on my patreon.
