Having been through this battle myself. This comic captures every thought and feeling i went through myself. This comic will hit you hard and pull at your heart. You are warned. Be prepared to cry.

Sometimes great art comes from a cruel, hand-delivered fate from life; that huge jerk. In this case, the art comes from creator Susie Gander in the form of her semi-autobiographical journey entitled Perry Winkle. Gander shaped this comic as a means to cope with her diagnosis and treatment of Hodgkins Lymphoma, as well as raise awareness. Perry Winkle packs a powerful and emotional punch that readers will feel all the way through the last panel.

I've always said comics are the ultimate narrative form, in this case Susie Gander uses it to share an intimate, very touching and at times humorous account of her battle with cancer. Using a superhero cypher as a way to represent her mentality and personality during the struggle is a masterstroke. At once giving insight to something very private and opening the story wide and accessible.Can't praise it enough. I'll be buying a paper and ink copy when I get tot meet Susie in person at a con.

Having been through treatment for cancer myself, I too know the daily struggles and thoughts that enter your mind. Not only has Perrywinkle brought back a lot of the things I have forgotten but Susie brings you into a world of daily struggle and faith in a way that does not devalue the story she is trying to tell and what all of us face when we are hit with those words 'It is cancer' This is a must-read for everyone.
