Please introduce yourself and your team (if you have one).

My name is Mike Garley and I’m a writer who has worked on Adventure Time, Wallace and Gromit, Image Comics’ 24 panels anthology, as well as creator-owned projects The Kill Screen, Samurai Slasher, Our Final Halloween, and 32 Kills.

What are some of the comics that inspired you to start creating your own? Any creators in particular?

I’m inspired by a wide range of things, but I wouldn’t say there are any particular comics that inspired me to create my own. I used to love watching horror films as a kid, and then as a teenager I started to get into comics, but it was always the escapism that I was really into. I loved finding something fully formed that I could immerse myself in - even music and games. I think it’s that passion that’s driven me to tell my own stories.

How much of your own personality goes into your character(s)?

A lot. I’m a big fan of trying to use my characters to explore complicated subject matter, so I tend to have positive and negative character traits of mine in a lot of my characters so that when I put them in more complicated circumstances I have an insight into how they might react.

What struggles have you faced with the creation of ….. and producing the final release?

I’ve always been really lucky and I’ve got to work with a lot of incredible collaborators, which has meant I haven’t really had to deal with any problems. I’m also fairly pragmatic so I’ve managed to sort issues before they’ve escalated into anything really memorable.

/media/blog/library/32_kills_comichaus.jpgWhat do fans need to know going into their first issue of your comic?

I mean, if it’s 32 Kills then it’s just one issues, and that’s a pretty full on one-shot with stunning art from Andy W. Clift. We told that story with the notion that - hopefully - people can give it a reread to get a better idea of the story, as Andy’s art frenetically pulls people through the issue as the reader looks for answers.

What have you got coming up in the future? Are you working on more issues?

We’d love to do more 32 Kills, But Andy is currently working on his incredible Captain Cosmic, and I’m working on more Samurai Slasher, and Our Final Halloween so we’re pretty busy with those.
